CILANTRO – Calgary

We have biked all day and I want a brake from the kitchen.  While I have enjoyed the opportunity to cook in Calgary…it is nice to go out.  Cilantro has been recommended to us by the same friend that has impeccable taste in food, art and style in general.

We walk from the Roxboro Building up 4th to 17th street and head east.  In 10 minutes we are there…that is why I love about staying in this eighborhood…everything is at your doorstep!

This restaurant is filled with the young, hip Calgarians and us.  We are seated on a patio above the garden.  The restaurant has a wood fire pizza oven and it did not disappoint.  Prosecco  has become our adult beverage of choice….wine and liquor are extremely expensive and we just can’t bring ourselves to buy a bottle of wine we get at home for $40….and pay $100 here in Canada….

Terry ordered the pizza special and I ordered a duck confit wrapped inside pizza bread with crisp green apple slices and fig jam.  The highlight of the meal was dessert….graham cracker crust, peanut something whipped lighter than air filling with a chocolate ganuache topping….more please!

The restaurant has a curious practice…on the menu they have a statement that they are reducing their carbon footprint by manufacturing their own sparking water….and they would be happy to give you a bottomless glass of sparkling or still for $1.00 per glass…..Hope the states don’t pick up on this practice.
