Lynx Ridge, the first course I played in Calgary, has a very interesting layout, The par three 8th hole was 185 yards from the white elevated tee box and you had to carry the pond in front of the green. The day I played the greens were fast, because they were having the Alberta ladies championships. On hole 8, I used a 5 iron to get 8 feet from the right side pin placement, that left me a straight downhill putt. I left the ball on the edge of the cup missing my birdie. The sun has played peek-a-boo over the last few days and when the sun it out so are the beautiful women of Calgary in shorts. Continue reading CITY OF SHORTS
ROXBORO BUILDING – The Mission District
We were hesitant to rent a VRBO. One must pay for their entire stay in advance, cash. You will get an acknowledgement, but not the address until 30 days prior to your arrival and you hope that it is as good as represented on the web. Continue reading ROXBORO BUILDING – The Mission District
CARINO RISERVA – Calgary
Don’t you just love restaurants that live up to the recommendation given by friends? I know we do. Without the recommendations we would not have even bothered to stop at Carino Riserva…the exterior does not shout…hey, this is a great restaurant!
Last winter Toshi Karino opened a second restaurant, this time in the Mission district. Continue reading CARINO RISERVA – Calgary
CARNEGIE GIFT TO CALGARY
I got a library card today! I now have the vast Canadian “E” book library at my disposal…it is lifetime, no need for renewal and was free. 125 public libraries were built by Andrew throughout Canada. Continue reading CARNEGIE GIFT TO CALGARY

THIS ISN’T KANSAS TOTO
Tornado Wednesday. A grey blanket has fallen over Calgary. Impossibly large droplets of rain are falling. Booming thunder and jagged bolts of lightening to rival those of Phoenix makes their across the sky. Continue reading THIS ISN’T KANSAS TOTO
STAMPEDE AND ALL THINGS COWBOYS AND INDIANS
Word to the wise, avoid the mile long lines and purchase your Stampede tickets online in advance. It is hot by Calgary standards as we walk to the fairgrounds. Yesterday when we drove into town, we saw hundreds of cowboy hats marching to the stampede. Mom hats, dad hats and little baby hats…all shapes, colors and sizes. Do not be caught without a hat at the stampede. Continue reading STAMPEDE AND ALL THINGS COWBOYS AND INDIANS
MUSTARD FIELDS, BLUE SKIES AND LOOK AT THOSE SHOES
Up early…Calgary address punched into the GPS. Wide open highway flanked with alternating fields of corn, grain and mustard plants. Deep egg yolk yellow mustard flowers contrasting against a cloudless blue sky. Breathtaking. Continue reading MUSTARD FIELDS, BLUE SKIES AND LOOK AT THOSE SHOES
COWBOY BOOTS & PULLED PORK SANDWICHES
If I weren’t such a city girl, I would consider living on one of the ranches we pass on our way to Butte. Today a vivid green carpet of grass surrounds these large, rambling single story homes nestled on the mountainsides. Bright red barns with white wooden corrals dot the fields. Continue reading COWBOY BOOTS & PULLED PORK SANDWICHES
