This is a perfect morning in Bergen to finish the blog post about our cruise.
Mother Nature threw us a curve ball. We arrived when Norway was suffering from a historic heat wave. We tromped around hill and dale in merino wool and hiking boots. Ah, but this morning rain is falling on the cobble streets of Bergen and the temps are in the low 60’s. Just what the doctor ordered.
Our cruise ship, the Voyager, docked in 16 ports. We began in Stavanger, where Pulpit’s Rock towers over Lysefjord; then on to Honningsvag, the northernmost town above the Arctic Circle before turning south to the last 8 ports along the western coast. Amsterdam was our last stop before returning to England.
Attempting to describe the vast beauty of Norway’s landscape filled with green velvet mountains rising from the fjords, colorful wooden cottages lining the shores and modern bustling cities is impossible. This is a country best discovered and enjoyed in person.
After flying back to Oslo, we traveled by train to Bergen. In a few days we will rent a car and set off on our land tour. We will revisit some of our favorite cities as well as discover new ones driving north to the Lofoten Archipelago before returning to Bergen to fly to Berlin.
Below are some of our favorite photos. Alesund, with breathtaking views from Mount Aksia; Honningsvag where we put on survival suits to race in a RIB boat into the sea to harvest king crab; Trondheim founded in 997 AD which has become a gastronomy delight and Molde, the city of roses.
We hope you are well and enjoying what the world has to offer.
