Sailing clubs travel the coastline of Nova Scotia holding regattas. We accidentally happened upon the last day of competition in St. Margaret’s Bay. The competitors are as young as 9. There are one-man/woman and two-men/women teams each competing on courses set up in the bay.
About 150 young and old sailors of all shapes and descriptions came to compete. The sailing clubs brought some of the boats or mom’s and dad’s backed their vehicles up and off loaded their cargo. We watched as the sailors rigged their boats….and they were off!
At 10 a.m., each sailed out to sea under wind power…at 3:30 they returned, towed by power boats, the wind having given up the ghost.
Can you imagine….only 9 years old, out to sea by yourself and loving every minute…..I’m 66 and it looked daunting to me.
