From Halifax to Chester, we donned our Daniel Boone racoon hats and explored the hidden asphalt and gravel drives that would suddenly appear, no wider than a car width, intersecting Highway 333. Some perhaps only a couple of kilometers long, others up to 15 kilometers, revealing shaded cottages and large mansions….all with docks, canoes, kayaks, power and sail boats and sometimes a cemetery or two. The weather takes it toll on the buildings and landscape, resulting in texture and worn patinas on the cedar siding. Almost every home has a beautiful front garden or pathway filled with flowers and plants of all colors, sizes, shapes and descriptions.
