Old Quebec City

Our friends, Susan and Gayle, are in the midst of a 61 day road trip through the eastern provinces of Canada this summer.  They are  the inspiration for our 30 day road trip beginning in Quebec.

Want to go to France?  Don’t want to fly over the Atlantic?  If you have never been to Quebec, buy your ticket or turn the key in your car.  Hopefully our photo gallery will inspire you to make the trip and be greeted with “bonjour” when opening any door.  Beware, it is a city of steps….steps everywhere and steep streets.  Eat and drink as much as you want….you will burn all the calories walking home after dinner!

In 1608, Samuel de Champlain, the father of New France,  may have discovered and established Quebec… in 1872, it was Lord Dufferin who convinced the French city fathers to save the buildings and old stone walls erected to protect the city.  In 1985 UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site to be forever preserved in its present architectural condition.  Late at night, when all the tourist buses have departed, you can walk the narrow cobblestone streets and imagine life as it was in the late 1800’s.

And, together with all the historical sites…..you will eat well.  See our photo gallery for a sampling!
